The paint particles are negatively charged and attracted to the piece to be painted connected to earth (positively charged); the particles will tend to envelop the piece (wrap-around effect) even in the part not directly exposed to the casting. Furthermore, since the particles are charged with the same polarity, they will tend to repel each other, improving atomization.
